I remember when I bought my Tramp II
in 1974, that there was also a tramp I, with one (neck) pick-up
and only 2 control-knobs. It was a little cheaper. I actually
saw the Tramp I the last time in 1976 in Amsterdam, where
I used to live. The shop sold it for 700 guilders, that's
about 320 euro. Quite a lot of money, especially when you
consider, that I bought my Tramp II for 225 guilders (that's
about 100 euro), but it was slightly damaged, as the price-tag
that I still have, mentions.
Anyway, here are a few terrible black&white
pictures, taken in 1974. Totally original. Then a colour-print,
showing the guitar with original pick-ups, but with the Klira-tremelo
fitted, that's now on my 290 (notice the name Gibson instead
of Eko, haha!). And after that (1979) it goes totally wrong.
I replaced the pick-ups with Ibanez humbuckers from my SG,
but without decent pick-up rings, I threw away the pick-guard,
I replaced the neck with some cheap japanese stick and it
was not playable anymore. Until half a year ago, when I got
fed up with it. Allright, it would never be the same, but
at least it could be a nice guitar! And that's on the big
colour pictures. It's not entirely finished yet. I have to
do something about the headstock, paint Eko on it, change
the machine-heads and replace one pick-up, but at least it
looks good! And so it's still my Eko Tramp II, My first electric
guitar. "Is it safe, an electric guitar", mom asked?
OK, son, then here's the money you're short of ! Sweet mom,
sweet guitar.
