I finally found the guitar that started it
all for me, the Eko Tramp II in sunburst red. My original
Tramp II, that's also on-line
here, was ruined by me in the late seventies and carefully restored
in 2003, but a lot of original parts were missing. After a long
search I finally found another one and although some parts were
missing or damaged, and the neck-angle was horribly wrong, I managed
to get it allright and TOTALLY ORIGINAL (well, apart from the machine-heads,
I do have those, but I want the guitar to keep in tune).
Vox-pick-ups, Vox-knobs. Plays great, sounds
great. I just imagine this is the one I bought back in 1974! I'm
very glad, that the man, who sold me the guitar, decided to sell
it, instead of using the neck for a new project (oh, horror!), as
he first intended to do.
This guitar is one of the rare Eko guitars.
You didn't see it much in the seventies (the two I own are the only
two I've ever seen) and probably almost every one left is being
used only as pick-ups supply by Vox-guitar owners, 'cause it's almost
impossible nowadays to find Vox-pick-ups. What's left of the guitar
will, in most cases, be thrown away. And that's a pity, 'cause it's
quite a good guitar, with a true "sixties"-sound. And
a great neck, too!
