This is the most sought after of all 400's, the white elephant in the Eko range, the legendary red Ekomaster!

This finish is so incredibly rare in the 400 series that many people (including me) used to doubt its existence. Many collectors have heard of it but virtually no one could swear under oath that he had seen one other than in his dreams. Now, here it is!

The sparkle celluloid is not the red one used for the successive 500, 700 and 820 series. Its appearance is much rawer and a lot more blazing. Actually it is the same red grade used by Crucianelli for its first solidbodies.

By the way, why is red that rare among early Eko sparkle finishes? There is a practical reason for that. Remember that (in default of other sufficiently attractive and affordable guitars) the Eko 400 was widely used during 1961-62 in Europe by semi-professional players. They all favoured for their guitars light colours that offered a flashier appearance on the black-and-white TV while red was just seen as black.

Questa rifinitura è tanto incredibilmente rara nella serie 400 che molti (fra cui anch'io) mettevano in dubbio la sua esistenza. Molti collezionisti ne hanno sentito parlare ma quasi nessuno poteva certificare sotto giuramento che ne aveva visto una se non in sogno. Eccola finalmente!

Il celluloide a brillantini è diverso del rosso usato in seguito da Eko per le serie 500, 700 a 820. È molto più rozzo e fiammeggiante. Infatti è lo stesso tipo usato da Crucianelli per le sue prime solidbodies.

A proposito, perché era tanto rara la rifinitura rossa sulle prime Eko? C'è un motivo pratico. Ricordiamo che, per mancanza di altre chitarre sufficientemente attrattive ed economiche, la Eko 400 fu largamente usata in Europa nel periodo 1961-62 da musicisti semi-professionisti. Tutti preferivano chitarre con colori chiari che offrivano una visibiltà più attraente alla TV in bianco e nero. Il rosso invece appariva solo come nero.
