Eko violin bass - modello 995 : Eko viola guitar - modello 395 This is the natural evolution of the solid body violin bass, after the world success of the Beatles and McCartney’s Höfner Bass. The Beatles come to the Teatro Adriano in Rome in 1965 and that is approximately the time of its introduction. The headstock design recalls the Framus electric double bass which is itself inspired to some Renaissance instruments. The logo with the Gothic ‘E’, typical attempt of imitation by the Germans, appears for the first time and uniquely on this model. The scale was short, the frets small and the tuners not always up to standards. The playability and the comfort of the instrument were (and are) at least equal to the original Höfner. As for Höfner the guitar version was also available, the 395, with tremolo or not, six and twelve strings. Definitely rare as would be obvious for a model that is inspiring itself to the Beatles bass, but curiously not mentioned in catalogues. Exceptionally rare is the 12 strings model. This model was the object of the few endorsement experiments by Eko and LoDuca Bros who advertised it through the Grassroots group. Is the instrument that keeps alive the memory of a group, for once. who played it on numerous recordings with the Doors, always with
a pick. It can be found in tracks like "You're Lost Little
Girl" , "People Are Strange", "My Eyes Have
Seen You", "I Can't see Your Face In My Mind", "Summer's
Almost Gone" and "Wishful, Sinful" Recently Les Claypool of the Primus adopted (quite casually) an exemplar bearing NOS parts and played it pretty regularly both live and in studio raising its popularity among collectors. La scala era corta, i tasti piccoli e le chiavette non sempre all'altezza. La suonabilità e il comfort dello strumento erano (e sono) almeno pari all'originale di Höfner. Come per Höfner era disponibile anche la versione chitarra, la 395, con vibrato e senza, a sei e a dodici corde. Decisamente più rara come è ovvio per un modello che si ispirava al basso dei Beatles, stranamente non veniva menzionata nei cataloghi. Eccezionalmente rara la foto del modello a 12 corde. Questo modello fu oggetto di una dei pochi tentativi di endorsement sperimentati da Eko e i LoDuca Bros. che lo pubblicizzarono attraverso il gruppo dei Grassroots. Per una volta è lo strumento che tiene in vita la memoria di un gruppo. Tra i suoi utilizzatori ricordiamo almeno Doug Lubahn, che lo ha usato su numerose incisioni con i Doors usandolo sempre con il plettro. Primus ne ha adottato (abbastanza casualmente)
un esemplare assemblato con parti NOS e lo ha usato abbastanza stabilmente
sia dal vivo che in studio aumentandone la popolarità tra
i collezionisti. Il suo timbro semiacustico si presta abbastanza

Logica
evoluzione del basso violino solid body, dopo il successo planetario
dei Beatles e del basso Höfner di Mccartney. I Beatles arrivano
al Teatro Adriano di Roma nel 65 ed è più o meno questo
l'anno della sua introduzione. Il disegno della paletta si rifà
al riccio del contrabbasso elettrico Framus, ripreso a sua volta
da alcuni strumenti rinascimentali. Per la prima volta, e in esclusiva
su questo modello, appare il logo con la "E" gotica, ulteriore
tentativo di imitazione dei tedeschi. Il poggia-dita era montato
sul battipenna, sotto le corde e di nessuna utilità per il
playing moderno.
