Eko Auriga 1969/1971

Eko produced the Mandoguitar for Vox and this model inspired a traditional guitar. The drop design of the various Vox models was quite fashionable and was very appreciated even in Japan. In fact the Eko Auriga and the Teisco of Rey May Queen are practically identical.

(If you have an Auriga) It’s easy to say that the Eko design turned out better with its five knobs in line and the gorgeous headstock 700 type but in a new ‘reverse’ configuration like the Gibson Firebird.

We could find no trace of the Auriga in the ’67 catalogue and we can’t find it anymore in the one from ’73. The found catalogue is of the years 68/69 (and '71). This maybe a sign of Teisco primogeniture. Also the reverse headstock seems to be suggested by the attempt to imitate the upper left corner of the Japanese one.

Eko costruiva la Mandoguitar per Vox e a questo modello si ispirò per un modello di chitarra tradizionale. Il design a goccia dei vari modelli Vox ebbe un certo fascino e non mancò di avere estimatori (e imitatori) anche in Giappone. Di fatto la Eko Auriga e la Teisco del Rey May Queen sembrano due cloni. Facile, avendo un'Auriga, dire che il disegno della Eko sembra riuscito meglio con la fila di potenziometri a filo della cassa e la bellissima paletta tipo 700 ma in una inedita configurazione "reverse" come la Firebird della Gibson.

Non abbiamo visto traccia dell'Auriga sul catalogo del 67 e non la troviamo piu' in quello del 73. Il catalogo ritrovato è del 68/69 ( e quello del 71). Un indizio a favore della primogenitura della Teisco. Anche la paletta reverse sembra suggerita dal tentativo di imitare l'angolo sinistro in alto della giapponese.
