Look well at this all mother-of-pearl bass. You will maybe never see another one. It’s unthinkably rare. And did you often see basses with THREE pickups?

I think it’s from the very beginning of the Bartolini brand, as suggested by the non-adjustable floating bridge and the small machineheads (the original ones, with the octogon covers, are on the treble strings, the other ones have been swapped). Remember that real bass tuners weren’t available in Italy prior to Autumn 1963.

Guardate bene questo basso tutto perlinato. Potrebbe essere l’unico che mai vedrete. È impensabilmente raro. E se ne vedono spesso, bassi con TRE pickups?

Crediamo che fu costruito da Bartolini proprio agli inizi come indica il ponte flottante non regolabile e le piccole chiavette (quelle originali, con coperchi ottagonali, sono sulle corde più alte, le altre sono state cambiate). Questo ci ricorda che vere chiavette per basso non furono disponibili in Italia prima dell’autunno del 1963.
