The first European guitar with built-in amp and speaker was most surely the 1960’s Höfner Bat. Wandrè was inspired by the profile of a motorbike for the interpretation of the subject but while Höfner produced a little more than a prototype of a wardrobe, Wandrè had the courage to put it in production (1962?) and to renew it in 1965, in fact there are two distinct versions of Bikini. Both have the Davoli Krundaal CT 642 amplifier mounted. On-off switch, volume and 1/1+2/2 switch.

The first model has a thin-line body with binding, is in two colors: the tank is in a different color from the wheel, the grid of the wheel/amp is Cadillac style, with the Davoli logo (or Krundaal) in the middle. The batteries were probably contained in the round body, the power supply is 18 volts therefore surely 4x 4,5 volts batteries. The wiring diagram shows a variation in the JAGUAR model that we have never even heard about. Is this the rarest Wandrè’s still to discover or is it an aborted project because of legal problems with Fender?

The fingerboard is inlaid with the usual symbols, Pioli trademark. On the back there is an access box with two mini-jacks: one for pick up exit and the other for an optional external cabinet!!

The headstock of the first model is an absolute masterpiece, an aeronautic and futuristic concept.

The second model follows the stylistic evolution of all the other models. The hollow-body is traditional but hosts a long tube for torch batteries. The grid looses motor appeal and the loudspeaker is enlarged to favour the volume, amplifier and body are the same color, traditional neck with dot inlay.

La prima chitarra con amplificatore e cassa incorporata europea fu quasi certamente la Höfner Bat del 60. Wandré si ispirò al profilo di una moto per la sua interpretazione del tema ma mentre Höfner fece poco più di un prototipo simile a un armadio, Wandré ebbe il coraggio di metterla in produzione (62?) e di rinnovarla nel 65; infatti ci sono due distinte versioni della Bikini. Entrambe montavano l'amplificatore Davoli Krundaal CT 642, un combo pick-up/amp/controlli. Interruttore di accensione, volume e selettore 1/1+2/2.

Il primo modello ha la cassa sottile con binding, è bicolore: il serbatoio ha un colore diverso dalla ruota, la griglia della ruota/amp è in stile Cadillac, con il logo Davoli al centro. Le batterie probabilmente erano contenute nella cassa rotonda, l'alimentazione é 18 volt quindi sicuramente 4 batterie piatte da 4,5 V. Lo schema elettrico presenta una variante per il modello JAGUAR di cui non abbiamo nemmeno sentito parlare. La piu' rara delle Wandré ancora da scoprire o un progetto abortito per problemi legali con Fender?

La tastiera è intarsiata con i soliti simboli, marchio di fabbrica di Pioli. Sul retro è presente una scatola di accesso con due minijack: uno per l'uscita dei pick-up, uno per una cassa esterna opzionale!!

La paletta del primo modello è un capolavoro assoluto, di concezione futurista e areonautica.

Il secondo modello segue l'evoluzione stilistica di tutti gli altri modelli. Cassa tradizionale semiacustica ma che ospita un lungo tubo per le batterie a torcia. La griglia perde appeal motoristico e l'altoparlante cresce a favore del volume, amplificatore e cassa hanno lo stesso colore, manico tradizionale con segnatasti a dots.
