One day in his native Netherlands, a friend of ours (the curator of the famous Hille Collection) came across this no-trem Welson in a shop. The guitar was there as a mere ornamental wallhanger (along with a 1963 red Eko 500).

The Tune-o-Matic bridge and ’Stop’ tailpiece are not original, but the absence of any routing in the body to accomodate a vibrato mechanism is an evidence it never had any. On the other hand one can still see three screw holes showing that the guitar was originally equipped with an asymmetrical tailpiece.

The white pushbuttons look quite unusual in combination with the white pickguard. Black buttons were not yet available perhaps.

Un giorno, nella sua Olanda natale, un nostro amico (curatore della famosa Hille Collection) incontrò in qualche negozio questa Welson senza vibrato. La chitarra (accanto ad una Eko 500 del 63) era solo come decorazione murale.

Il ponticello Tune-o-Matic e lo‘Stop-Tailpiece’ non sono originali, ma l’assenza di fresatura per ospitare un meccanismo di vibrato dimostra che non ne ha mai avuto uno. D’altra parte si distinguono tre buchi per le viti che indicano che la chitarra era originalmente dotata d’un attaccacorde asimmetrico.
Dalla combinazione d’un battipenna bianco e dei pulsanti risulta un aspetto insolito. Forse non erano ancora disponibili pulsanti neri.
