Eko 295. Triple cutaway hollow-body
THE SEMI-ACOUSTIC VERSION OF THE 700 SERIES IS SO PAINFULLY RARE THAT IT WAS OFTEN BELIEVED TO BE A MYTH. NOW THE LEGEND HAS COME TO REALITY, I TOOK IT HOME!
This strange guitar gathers typical features of hollow bodied Eko s of 1964 as well as of 700 solid bodies of the same year. They share the same hardware, controls and wiring ˜ besides the additional switch and smaller second jack output specific to the 700 model in the configuration of 1964.
A soudhole label reads “Modello 295″. The fretboard is just like the semi-acoustic Eko s of 1964 (no propeller inlays). Headstock is a very handsome variation of the classic 700 design. Though very rare this neck is not quite unknown to us, it shows sometimes with the final version of the 700 series.
Oddballs like this one were generally made in very small runs and showcased in exhibitions or larger retailer shops.
We have a photo made by early 1964 of the Eko booth at the Musikmesse, the big musical instruments trade fair in Frankfort a/M, showing a semi-acustic 700 just like mine (control layout and headstock shape are perfectly matching).
Anyone in the audience having heard of close-up pics made of the booth? Thanks. By the way there was an even more bizarre 700 version above, a solid one with some kind of a fourth cutaway in body bottom.

Questa strana chitarra combina caratteristiche tipiche delle Eko semi-acustiche del 1964 con lo stesso hardware, controlli e circuiti – a parte il pulsante supplementare e la seconda uscita più piccola che sono una caratteristica della 700 del 1964.
Il cartiglio riporta “modello 295″. La tastiera è esattamente quella delle Eko semi-acustiche del 1964 (niente segnatasti a ufo). La paletta è una variazione elegantissima del disegno classico della 700. Benché rarissimo questo manico non ci è sconosciuto, appare a volte sulla versione finale della serie 700.
Stranezze come queste erano fatte in pochissimi esemplari, forse appositamente per una mostra o per essere esibite nei negozi dei grandi rivenditori.
C’è una foto presa all’inizio del 1964 dello stand Eko alla Musikmesse, la grande fiera musicale di Francoforte a/M, che fa vedere una 700 semi-acustica simile a questa (la disposizione dei controlli e la sagoma della paletta corrispondono perfettamente).
Qualcuno ha notizie di foto più dettagliate dello stand? Grazie. A proposito, c’era una 700 in versione ancora più bizzarra sopra, una solidbody con il quarto cutaway in basso.
