Crucianelli acoustic guitars

Acoustic guitars occupy a minor place in the Crucianelli range. A special place, though: they didn’t mind to hide behind some inscrutable brandname, they just called themselves Crucianelli. Honest acoustical instruments of this kind couldn’t damage Crucianelli’s public image on its long established accordion market. Even entry-level guitars like the basic C-20 (also known as C-120). Though not that widely distributed it is quite similar to the Eko P-2 and sports the same super-thick finish and frequently the amber-burst shade. The bolt-on neck features a triangle chrome plate which is specific to all Crucianelli’s non set-neck acoustics.

On the US market the same models were distributed by both PANcordion (Panaramic) and Imperial (Tonemaster). In order to avoid any confusion they were branded Panaramic in the first case while they retained their original name when distributed within the Tonemaster program.

The mysterious name C.Renella appears sometimes on Crucianelli guitars. Could be some subcontractor that at the end distributed under its own brand the guitars it made for Crucianelli. This C-20, probably from the late period, sports the headstock logo C.Renella in spite of the classic Crucianelli soundhole label.

The Crucianelli C-90 belongs to an extinct species that used to be very much in demand way back in the 60’s, the versatile guitar that could be used with nylon as well as with steel strings and fit nearly any music style. At first sight it looks like a quite normal classical guitar, if it wasn’t for some strange typical Italian 60’s features: there is a zero-fret and an steel truss-rod that can be adjusted under the clock shaped plastic plate (reminiscent of Eko ) on the headstock. Such a truss-rod access on a Spanish style slotted headstock may seem archaic. However the avant-garde acoustic guitar maker Ovation has been reintroducing this solution for some time! The glued-in neck, the top and rear binding and the tastefully arched back put it in a class above the mainstream of mass produced acoustic guitars of that time. The printed soundhole decoration (every maker in Castelfidardo-Recanati had his own pattern) is rather cheapness. Doesn’t harm the sound anyway.
