Hagström I / Kent

1964 – The “fastest neck in the world” is there!

English

This red Kent opens the second chapter in the model’s history. Though this 2nd generation is still referred to as Kent PB-24-G in Hagström’s ‘Blue Booklet’, here we have a substantially different instrument. The Tremar vibrato is now of the second type, with string ends anchored in notches, but the major change is in the neck, much thinner than previously, now with a Fenderish headstock and a painted finish instead of a celluloid coating.

At some time the Hagström company considered discontinueing the Kent series. With the introduction in 1963 of the Futurama model and of a series significantly listed as ‘Ny Kent’ (‘New Kent’, a.k.a. the ‘Wooden Kent’), the older plastic Kent could be seen as redundant.

It’s certainly on the request of U.S. distributor Merson that production was resumed, but now with the super-skinny neck that was already offered with the Futurama and ‘Wooden Kent’ series. The ‘Wooden Kent’ was ultimately dropped and the revamped plastic model started for a long and successful second career, primarily in USA.

Italiano
